MUNICIPAL INFORMATION

 

BUILDING PERMITS - Permits to regulate & control new & existing construction, including the construction, erection, placement, alteration, repair, renovation, demolition, relocation, removal, occupancy or change in occupancy of any building, erection or structure or addition to a building, erection or structure are required under Municipal By-Law No. 08-18 and under Section 4 of The Building and Mobile Homes Act.

DOG LICENCES - Municipal By-Law establishing regulations for the control of dogs within the municipality requires the licensing of dogs within the municipality.  

 

BURNING PERMITS - Municipal By-Law No. 09-10 relative to the prevention and suppression of fires enacts "No person shall, between the 1st day of April and the 15th day of November, light a fire in any area of the municipality without first obtaining a permit for the intended burning from the municipality." 

 

TAX SALE PROCESS- A council must in each year offer for sale by auction all properties in the municipality the taxes in respect of which are in arrears for the designated year. The sale of a property at a tax sale auction is final and any interest a person had in the property before the sale is eliminated. Please contact the municipal office to make arrangements for payment to avoid additional costs associated with the tax sale process.

DRAINAGE – Drainage plan available on municipal website. All drainage work requires approval by Water Stewardship and the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin.  Applications for any drainage work or approach requests are available through the office or on the municipal website.

 

DEVELOPMENT TAX INCENTIVE – The purpose of the program is to encourage construction of new residential and industrial/commercial development in the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin effectively increasing economic development and increasing the tax base.   Refer to the policy posted on the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin website for more details.
